Prenatal yoga will leave you feeling strong, relaxed, and more connected to yourself and your baby. Our classes go beyond simply modifying yoga poses. With an emphasis on strength, breathing, gentle stretches and community connection, this course can help prepare your mind and body for birth and parenting.

Each session will include poses that bring balance and alignment to your pelvis, pelvic floor, and pelvic and uterine ligaments. Through yoga asana, students can safely encounter strong sensations, and alongside that, discover the coping skills that work best for you and can later be applied to moments of physical or mental discomfort, like during labour and early parenthood. This mindful approach to yoga practice will leave you feeling ready for whatever lies ahead in pregnancy, birth, and beyond.

We empower students to continuously learn about pregnancy, the birthing process and early parenthood. Our practice sessions are grounded in a welcoming and open environment that celebrates the value of community as you explore this current chapter of life. This class is exclusively for pregnant people (not a partners class).

Beginners to yoga and any stage of pregnancy are welcome.

Course Format: This course includes 6 interactive, weekly sessions offered in a hybrid (virtual and in-person) format. By registering for the IN-STUDIO option, you may choose to attend each session in-person or online. If you prefer to attend all sessions online, please register for the VIRTUAL listing of this course as in-person spots are limited.

Course participants will also receive access to a virtual Course Portal that includes recordings of the weekly sessions, and a set of on-demand video practices specially selected to complement the course. • IN-STUDIO Learn to Back Squat

    with Nicole
    Details

    $160+hst

    4 weeks

The back squat is a compound exercise performed with a barbell and a rack. Unlike a goblet squat, the amount of weight you move isn’t limited to what you can lift with your upper body, and because of this, you can train your lower body for maximal strength over time.

While the back squat can feel intimidating, with the proper preparation and training, it’s an accessible and highly efficient way to build capacity.

Join Nicole in a small group setting (4 participant maximum) to learn the basics of the back squat while receiving personalized coaching to help develop and improve your form, while building confidence.

    Participants will:

    • Learn how to set-up the barbell rack and get started with beginner-friendly variations of the back squat
    • Receive individualized coaching on how to optimize the position of the back squat to best meet individual needs
    • Gain an understanding on how to load the bar progressively over time to increase challenge and build strength
    • Have the opportunity to ask questions and gain experience in a small group setting

This course is for you, if:

    • You have a well-developed squat using dumbbells or kettlebells but have no (or minimal) experience squatting with a barbell
    • You have an interest in learning to load the squat more heavily
    • You are able to squat with the minimum weight of the bar alone (35 or 45 lb) positioned on your upper back
    • You have attended "Strength Training" (formerly "Strength Essentials") at the Branches with regularity for at least one year

This course is not suitable for those who are new to the squat or strength training in general. Please ask our team about our beginner-friendly strength training offerings!

Course Format: This course includes 4 in-person, weekly sessions at our studio location.

This unique class is for anyone who is on a path to recovering from physical or emotional trauma. The class aims to give participants tools to understand how trauma affects the body, to move through embodied trauma (trauma stored in the body) through movement. Trauma may seem like a loaded word, but it is something that affects many of us through major losses, accidents, violence, or other major life stresses.

Embodiment for Trauma Recovery consists of very gentle movements, simple postures from hatha yoga, and breath awareness. The classes are aimed at building a trauma survivor’s sense of empowerment and cultivating a more positive relationship to one's body. The class focuses on internal sensing and reclaiming choice in your body, and is less about form or technique. Absolutely everything in the class is optional, and the practice is beginner-friendly.

Based on the evidence-based methodology of Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga. Embodiment for Trauma Recovery is a group movement class. While this class is taught by a Registered Psychotherapist, it is not group therapy. As an adjunctive therapy, it is not intended as a replacement for working with a qualified therapist. Participants are encouraged to seek adjunctive treatment with a therapist to support the process of healing as needed.

Scope of Practice & Insurance: This class is taught by a licensed Registered Psychotherapist and the fees may be eligible for reimbursement by some insurance companies. You can submit a claim to your company as a "therapeutic group yoga class for mental health taught by a Registered Psychotherapist”. Please confirm coverage directly with your insurer. While there may be invitations for reflection or brief sharing, the class is primarily yoga-based methods and not group talk therapy. As an adjunctive therapy, it is not intended as a replacement for working with a qualified therapist. Participants are encouraged to seek adjunctive treatment with a therapist to support the process of healing as needed.

Does your nervous system feel rattled by current events, difficult life circumstances, traffic, or loud and overstimulating environments? Does meditation seem impossible because your mind is looping, scanning, planning, or spiralling? Do breathing exercises make you more anxious? You are not alone!

This course offers practical education and tools for understanding stress, overwhelm, and your body’s protective responses.

Together, we’ll explore how the nervous system responds to distress, why certain reactions make sense, and what helps create more steadiness, capacity, and choice. Each class will include accessible psychoeducation, guided reflection, simple regulation practices, breath awareness, and mindful movement to support integration.

Rather than focusing on poses or performance, this class emphasizes self-understanding, nervous system literacy, and everyday strategies for meeting stress with more care. Practices will be trauma-sensitive, invitational, adaptable, and grounded in choice.

Come for grounded support in distressing times; leave with practical tools for resilience, emotional well-being, and staying present with reality as it is.

    Beginners welcome.

Release tension, support your nervous system, and rest deeply.

In this 6-week beginner-friendly course, you’ll explore the relationship between gentle movement, myofascial release, and restorative stillness. Each class begins with self-massage using therapy balls — we’ll roll to release tension, support breath, and invite ease into the body. We’ll also incorporate inflatable balls for guided breathing and somatic movement to help you settle and unwind.
From there, we transition into long-held restorative yoga poses supported by bolsters, blankets, and other props, allowing your body and mind to fully rest. Each week will focus on a different area of the body, offering a head-to-toe reset over the course of six weeks.

You’ll leave class feeling soft, soothed, and deeply cared for.

About Carol Kennedy: With a deep appreciation for restorative yoga and myofascial release, Carol is dedicated to creating safe, effective practices that support deep relaxation and self-care. She has completed over 100 hours of specialized training, including 50 hours in myofascial release, 40 hours in restorative yoga, and a 20-hour anatomy intensive. While restorative yoga has been part of Carol’s journey for over five years, myofascial release is a newer addition to her toolkit. She’s passionate about integrating this technique—using gentle, sustained pressure on connective tissue— with a nervous system-informed approach to enhance relaxation, regulation, and overall well-being.

This class is exclusively for pregnant people (not a partners’ class).

Beginners to yoga and any stage of pregnancy are welcome.

What Students Are Saying About Our Courses

I learned helpful modifications for yoga poses. It felt like a safe space for people in larger bodies and our needs were met and understood. This course was a great introduction to The Branches yoga studio and I will be returning!

Re: Yoga for Round Bodies

Karina L

I learned how important feet and ankles are for balance, and I improved a lot. I went cross-country skiing last weekend, and felt I had better control and stability than I've had for years, and I think it is all about strengthening my feet and ankles and hips. I also really liked that there were many suggestions every week on how to build in these exercises into daily life. Linda is experienced at giving instructions... the clear verbal instructions were very important.

Re: Yoga for Dynamic Aging

Arli K

I gained a way to calm "The Sunday Nights." I would recommend this course to others. It was very relaxing, it made me take time to rejuvenate and calm myself before another busy week.

Re: Deep Relaxation: Stretching & Restorative Yoga

Jenn

I learned the importance of mobility and range of motion for my joints, strength, and yoga practice. I gained lots of new exercises to incorporate into my fitness schedule. I would absolutely recommend this course to others. Mobility seems to be an undervalued form of fitness and is very important.

I have taken many classes with Nadine, and I've learned at least one thing from each one, eg. acceptance of where I am at, physically and mentally, at that particular time. As an experienced teacher, Nadine is an excellent instructor, always encouraging us to trust our own reactions, while introducing elements that are new and challenging along with others that are familiar and comforting.

I learned so much! Working through trauma takes time. The more work you do the more you will understand and grow. Trauma is helplessness trapped in the body. Loved this course. Thank you so much for offering it. The teacher was fabulous.

I liked the flexibility of in-person or virtual.

Really appreciated being able to access the videos at a later date.
